Retired Champion jockey, Abdul Latiff, who won more than his fair share of titles in his day, was on hand at Kennard Memorial Turf Club at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne last Sunday at the post-Phagwah meet to present a trophy to the winning jockey Randolph Richmond.
Latiff enjoyed a long and exciting career as a jockey in horseracing that spanned a period of three decades and he usually returns to the race tracks at every given opportunity. As a jockey he rode in every track from Skeldon to Corentyne to D’Urban Park in Georgetown.
Today, as a spectator on the sidelines, this retired jockey has returned to nearly all the tracks still operational and it was seen as fit by the organisers to have him make the presentation to a modern day champion jockey.
It is warm to see this 90-year-old able to get around the country from Berbice to Demerara and climb stairs to watch horseracing and to exude such joy and pride in the sport that still gives him a thrill. Keep riding the high spirits jockey Latiff.
