Top Brandz Distributors, local distributors of Hairoun Beer yesterday announced that they are partnering with the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) for Saturday’s Sevens tournament at the National Park.
At a Press Conference hosted at Top Brandz’ Broad Street, Georgetown Headquarters, Marketing Manager Marvin Wray said they were pleased to support what he called the ‘gladiators’ of Guyana, telling the gathering, “I’ve followed the sport and what rugby has done is nothing short of exceptional and we are happy to support that development, we are looking for ways to continue development and giving back to you our consumers which is important to us.”
”Other organisations might be bigger but we have bigger hearts and we will continue to support these guys because we believe in them,” Wray shared.
GRFU Second Vice-President Rawle Toney highlighted the magnitude of company’s contribution to the sport: “This is the first lucrative tournament of its kind in addition to having Trinidad and Tobago’s Sevens champions Harvard featuring our very own Claudius Butts coming here to play, we want to thank, Hairoun and Top Brandz for this support.”
”In fact, it’s the perfect way for us to kick-start the season with the quality of players that will be here which will also include Kevin McKenzie from Australia playing for the Hornets, this tournament will give the guys a foundation for the rest of 2018,” Toney noted.
In addition, Toney said that the female players will also be in with a chance to kick-start their season as well as part of the overall proceedings of the tournament which will start at 11:00hrs on Saturday with the men playing for a top prize of $200,000 while second placed team will receive $100,000. The females will also play for a cash prize that is yet to be determined.
Both speakers have urged the fans to support Saturday’s event which will also provide fans with a fantastic atmosphere at the National Park.
Harvard Rugby Club, Trinidad and Tobago’s leading Sevens team will match skills with Pepsi Hornets, Yamaha Caribs, Panthers, Police Falcons and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) with all starting on even keels to pocket the prizes on offer.
