A West Coast Demerara family is scared after two arson incidents this week. Persons unknown have thrown bags of gasoline and a Molotov cocktail in the space of two nights, leaving the Hague Back, West Coast Demerara family traumatised.
In the wake, a Toyota Spacio, used by the family as a taxi was damaged.
According to Kami Persaud, who lives there with her teenage daughter, husband and in-laws, it was shortly after midnight on Monday that the family woke up to noises.
On investigating, they found a number of plastic bags with fuel in the yard. They also found the remains of a lemonade bottle with a wick still attached to a cork. It was a crude Molotov cocktail.
Fortunately, there was not too much damage to the car, which is used by her husband as a taxi.
It was Tuesday again that things took a turn for the worse.
Shortly after midnight, after the in-laws who slept downstairs had turned in, there were loud noises in the yard. According to Persaud, she was not asleep as yet.
The family went outside and saw fire on the car. This time, there was gasoline involved.
The family managed to put out the fire but not before the car was scorched.
There was little damage to the home.
The woman said from indications, the persons jumped over the fence.
Persaud said that her family is now terrified that more attempts will be made.
Asked whether the family had problems with anyone, the woman said that she believed it stemmed from someone who had maliciously set up a Facebook page with her family.
Persaud said she had no Facebook account.
The information was told to the police.
