Plaisance Guardians drew first blood after defeating Bounty Colts 73-56 in game one of the three-game 2nd Division finals, in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA) 2018 knockout tournament on Tuesday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Colts who have been the dominant force in GABA were completely outplayed by the East Coast based club and their eventual 17-point defeat could’ve been a lot heavier. During the sec
ond half, Guardians were flying with a 31-11, 20-point lead but poor shot selections coupled with unnecessary turnovers allowed Colts to fight back and finish the quarter trailing by only six points.
Guardians’ Terrence Daniels continued his amazing form and netted a game leading 18 points, sinking four three-pointers in the process. His teammate Andrew Johnson sunk four three-pointers of his own and was the driving force of the Guardians’ fast break as he scored an impactful 16 points. Jared Sears and Nigel Bowen each scored 10 points to help the effort.
Meanwhile, Richard Telford led the scoring for Colts with 17 points during his team’s heavy defeat that will definitely be looking to bounce back from tonight at CASH when game two get underway.
The night’s play featured an exhibition match between Guyana Masters and Qualfon. Eon Meredith top scored with 12 points during Qualfon’s 56-46 win. (Photos and story by Calvin Chapman)
