It was just about time to close their doors and retire to bed for the night on Thursday when a family of four of Lot 309 Area ‘R’, Ankerville, Port Mourant, was pounced on by four armed men.
Shanta Kalyan Dudhnath, 34, who lives at the home with her husband, her nine-year-old son and her mother-in-law, said that the men demanded cash and jewellery, and threatened to rape her.
Dudhnath recounted that approximately 20:30 hrs her husband got up to close the front door to the house when two masked men, armed with a gun and cutlass, shoved him back into the house and ordered the occupants to lie on the ground. By that time, two others, armed with another cutlass and a piece of wood entered.
“They asked where is the money, bring all the money or we gonna kill you. I told them we don’t have any money,” the woman said.
This seemed to have aggravated one of the men since he began to physically assault Dudhnath’s husband
“They start kicking and beating him up and then they come to me and I had two finger rings including my wedding ring, they take it out, they also took my earring from my ears and the cellphones that were in the house.”
She said that the men began to ransack the entire house and even emptied her son’s school backpack. They also threatened her son.
“They took my son off a chair and put him on the ground and they pull his foot saying that they gonna chop it off if we don’t give them the money.”
The still traumatized woman said one of the bandits muttered, “I just come out of jail and I want money”. They then took her to the bedroom and ordered her to hand over whatever cash she had stashed in the room. She complied, but this was not enough for the men. It was at that point that one of the men began to tug at her clothing and removed it, “they tear off my clothes from my skin and they said they gonna rape me, if I don’t give them more money. So I went to my jewellery box and I told them to take everything inside; that this is all I have, I swear on my life and child”.
She added, “They bring me out and I wrap myself with a towel and they keep checking all over the place”.
The mother of one disclosed that after the attackers brought her out from the room they requested scotch tape. This they took and bound their hands, feet and gagged her husband while they lay flat. The men also thrashed her mother-in-law.
“One of them keep saying, ‘bannaz time up’ and they took my son to show them the key for the house, and they take the key and take my son outside to open the gate for them and they escape,” Dudhnath explained.
The men escaped with eight cellphones, three phablets, one laptop computer, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash. The police arrived shortly after the ordeal.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander Lyndon Alves confirmed that investigators are currently on the hunt for some “persons of interest” whose names were provided to them in connection with the robbery.
