In a keenly contested final, Rage defeated Spartans and Phantom to win the Richard ‘Saddist’ Mittleholzer 47th Birthday domino tourney on Sunday last at the Turning Point Sports Club, Tucville.
Competition which had commenced one day earlier at the Mayor’s Residence saw a total of 17 teams in contention as they pulled out all the stops against each other to have a shot at the lucrative prizes. The format utalised saw games being played four rounds on a point’s system basis, then sudden death as the final nine teams progressed.
Final scores were Rage 75 games, Spartans and Phantom 73 games each with Spartans gaining the upper hand as a result of scoring more sixes, 7 compared to Phantom’s 5. For their efforts Rage took away the top prize of $150,000 while Spartans collected $80,000 and Phantom, $40,000, trophies were also presented to the top three.
The Most Valuable Player on the night was Solomon Caine of Phantom who scored 17 games and he was presented with a cash prize of $10,000 while the Best Female Player prize went to Sharon Jerome of C-6 who marked 53 games from a maximum of 54. Ms Jerome was presented with a pair of gold earrings, compliments of YK Investments.
Mittleholzer expressed thanks to all the participating teams as well as complimented his sponsors whilst promising that the competition would be an annual affair which will be improved on, come next year. Other sponsors included Grill Kings and Trophy Stall.
