Mar 15, 2018 Letters
Dear Sir,
Please refer to a letter which appeared in your Kaieteur News issued March 14, 2018: “It’s frightening that these are the people who are in charge of our city” by Movement Against Parking Meters (MAPM).
The contents of this letter seem to suggest that the MAPM has metamorphosed into a movement against the Council and in fact, a movement against the city. One gets the impression from the letter that this particular group of individuals seems to have concluded that they have a duty to continue to spin a negative narrative against the attempts by the Council to make Georgetown a better place for all.
This is unfortunate as it could only occasion a challenge to the collective effort of the Mayor and City Council to sustainably improve conditions in all local communities and the city as a whole. It is to be regretted that the MAPM appears to have outdone itself to speak on a matter for which it has no knowledge and competence, I refer to the matter, which involved a no confidence motion against the Town Clerk of the city of Georgetown.
I suggest that the writer of the letter familiarize himself or herself with the powers, duties, responsibilities of the Town Clerk, standards and protocols that are involved in receiving and placing motions on the Council’s agenda and the Standing Order Rules of the Municipal and District Councils Act, chapter 28:01.
Regards
Debra Lewis
Public Relations Officer
Mayor and City Council
