The body of a 68-year-old woman was found early yesterday morning at her West Bank Demerara home. Her throat was slit.
Police said that Ursilla Padarat, called ‘Daughter’, was found sitting upright in a chair by her hallway at around 07.30 hrs. The woman’s throat had been slit on the left side. There was reportedly no sign of forced entry to the one-bedroom premises.
Police sources said that Padarat was last seen alive at around 19.30 hrs on Tuesday. There are reports that a relative had given her $123,000 to pay for the work to be done at her home.
A 47-year-old man who Paradat had hired to carry out the repairs, reportedly visited the woman’s home that same night to discuss the cost for the job. A resident indicated that Padarat had known the individual for a number of years.
When the man turned up at around 07.30 hrs yesterday to begin work, he reportedly observed that the lights were on and a padlock was on the outside of the door. He then entered Padarat’s home and discovered her body. The man notified a rural constable who lives in the neighbourhood and the police were immediately contacted.
A police official said that the man was questioned but up to late yesterday, no one had been held.
Some residents have alleged that Padarat had an argument on Tuesday with a drug addict, who reportedly told the pensioner that he would “deal with” her later. One resident said that several drug addicts live in the area.
Padarat’s body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour.
