The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) 2018 edition of the annual knockout tournament that will be competed in the Open, 2nd and Under-23 divisions, bounced off on Monday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Homestretch Avenue. Two games blew off and after the night’s play Kobras defeated Pacesetters in the 2nd Division, while Plaisance Guardians downed Sonics in the U-23 section.
The East Bank Demerara based Guardians defeated Pacesetters 59-52 in the first match of the night, led by Amoniki John who netted a game high 16 points.
He was assisted by of Patrick John, Rondell Wilson and Selwyn McAllister, who contributed 11, 10 and nine points correspondingly.
Quincy DosSantos netted 15 points for Pacesetters, while his teammates Zion Gray, Kwesi Roberts and Stephen Peters supported with 10, eight and six points each.
In the feature match, East Coast Demerara based Plaisance Guardians brushed Georgetown unit, Sonics 81-62.
Anton Fileen top scored in the rout which his team led from the first whistle with 20 points, while his teammates, Nigel Bowen and Terrence Daniels who were the next best scorers with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Chipping in with nine, six and five points respectively, were Andrew Johnson, Jared Sears and Akeem Crandon. On the losing side, Manasseh Murray and Lemuel Grant battled to 15 and 13 points each.
Supporting with eight, six and five points apiece were Shemon Sharples, Shemar Keiler and Jacques Vicente. The tournament continues today at the same venue with another round of matches.
In the 2nd Division, Eagles will oppose Guardians at 18:30hrs, while Kobras match skills with the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans from 20:30hrs.
