The Guyana Football Federation’s Elite League continued on Saturday night at the Guyana Defence Force ground on Carifesta Avenue and Vlissingen road with two matches under lights. The night proved successful for the East Coast Demerara fans as Victoria Kings and Buxton United registered victories.
In the feature match, Buxton United FC needled Linden’s Milerock FC, a victory that came off the heels of Keveron Durant in the first half of the match. Durant’s and the game’s solitary strike, which was netted in the 43rd minute, was good enough to see Buxton hold off for a victory and move to six points (two wins) from five games played.
Meanwhile, earlier in the evening in the first match that began at 18:00hrs, Victoria Kings enjoyed a 3-0 walk in the park victory against the winless New Amsterdam United FC. Aubrey Gibson (1st) and Alden Laurence (36th) both scored once during the first period of play before Laurence completed a brace when he scored in the 66th minute to hand New Amsterdam their fourth consecutive loss (four games played).
The win has allowed Kings to resume their lead at the top of the points table with 12 points from five games (four wins, one loss) while left winger Aubrey Gibson continues to impress and tops the goal scorers charts with six goals.
The league continues on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground with a double header featuring third placed Western Tigers (four games, 10 points) and table stragglers Cougars FC (five games, five losses) that are staring the threat of relegation; that game kicks off at 17:30hrs. And, the second match will see fourth placed Fruta Conquerors (four games, three wins, one loss) against second place Den Amstel (five games, three wins, one loss, one draw) in a very anticipated game from 19:30hrs.
