THERE were big wins for Xtreme Campbellville and Tiger Bay as the Corona Beer Futsal competition continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium.
Playing the second game of the night, Xtreme Campbellville downed New Market Street 10-2 in a goal fest. A pair of hat-tricks from Oziel Small (10th, 14th and 16th) and Shane Jones (6th, 16th and 18th) gave the Campbellville side the impetus they needed for a big win. That, coupled with two braces each for Ceon Richardson (12th and 15th) and Carl Griffith (11th and 13th) was enough to ensure the largest margin of the night
In the opening game, Alexander Village beat Broad Street 6-0 with four goals coming from Leon Yaw (13th, 14th, 15th and 18th), while Gordon Henry and Leroy Jonas chipped in with strikes in the 19th and 28th.
Game three featured Tiger Bay mauling Plaisance 10-3. Deon Alfred was unrelenting in his onslaught, scoring four goals in the 7th, 10th and two in the 16th to lead the charge. Jeffrey Newton added a hat-trick to foray (9th, 11th and 14th), while Jermaine Scott scored a brace in the 3rd and 17th and Orin Moore’s lone strike in the 13th brought the total to 10. On the opposing end, there were single strikes each from Akeem Thomas (8th), Denzil King (15th) and O’Neil Clarke (18th).
California Square overturned the challenges of North East in an 8-5 contest where Dillon Kelly (11th and 18th) and Ned Fraser (9th and 13th) each scored braces. The other goals came through lone strikes from Levi Canterbury (2nd), Meshack Brandt (14th), Christian Benjamin (11th) and Wesley Garraway (6th). For North East Kelvin Moore (3rd and 12th) along with Keifer Brandt (1st and 7th) and Carl Tudor (18th) accounted for the 5 goals scored.
Sparta Boss were on the delivering end of a beating in a 6-2 beating of Mocha in the fifth game of the evening with Jeremy Garrett and Jermaine Junior scoring braces (17th and 18th) as well as (5th and 7th) respectively. Court Birthin’s 29th minute strikes coupled with an own goal in the 19th accounted for Sparta’s tally. Mocha had Teon Jones and Amos Ramsey on target in the 13th and 4th.
Old School Ballers went down 3-4 to Future Stars in the last game of the night. Aaron Anthony spurred Future Stars on with a hat-trick in the 2nd, 3rd and 12th, while Shane Morris iced the cake with his lone strike in the 8th. Old School had Omari James, Fabian Crawford and Rashuan Ritch on target in the 15th, 13th and 17th.
The tournament continues tomorrow with six more thrilling, group stage, round robin matches. The winner of the competition will pocket $600,000 and the MVP along with a lucky fan will walk away with a Hero Honda 150cc motorcycle, compliments of Rose Ramdehol Auto Sales.
