ccess Masters and Ariel Masters recorded victories when the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Inc annual Republic Cup commenced yesterday at Malteenoes Sports Club.
Success Masters defeated HS Masters by 14 runs. Led by an entertaining 76 from Mark Fung, Success Masters posted 136-7 off their allotted 20 overs. Fung slammed six fours and five sixes, but apart from him only Sahadeo Boodhoo with 11 managed double figures as Manoj Arjune claimed 3-11.
HS Masters responded with 122 all out in 20 overs. Mikey Ifill made 25, while Nandram Samlall got 19 and Oslyn Batson 17. Rajesh Baljit claimed 3-17, Raymond Karim 2-19 and Azeemul Haniff 2-21.
Ariel Masters overcame Amazon Masters by seven wickets in their encounter. Peter Persaud and Dharam Persaud shared six wickets between them to help bowl out Amazon Masters for 79 in 10 overs, batting first. Raghunandan Narine struck 30 as Peter Persaud finished with 3-15 and Dharam Persaud 3-20.
Ariel Masters responded with 80-3 in nine overs. Richard Persaud struck 25 while Mohamed Rafeek made 20; the pair added 40 for the third wicket after Ron Ramanuth went for 15.
Success Masters and Ariel Masters will clash in the Masters’ final from 09:00hrs today on pitch one. Simultaneously Regal All stars and Success All stars will battle in the open final on pitch two. The competition will then conclude with the Masters heavyweight final which pits Regal Masters against Mike’s Wellman. (Zaheer Mohamed)
