On Tuesday, Second Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge, and his Haitian counterpart, Antonio Rodrigue, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Republic of Haiti.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MOU provides a framework for the deepening of collaboration between Guyana and Haiti in the areas of tourism, agriculture, water management, forestry, food security and other sectors facilitating the economic and social development of the two countries.
“A Joint Commission will be established to implement the agreement and give further impetus to the bilateral relationship. The first meeting of the Commission is expected to take place within six months of the entry into force of the Agreement and thereafter, the Commission is expected to meet annually, or as otherwise agreed.”
Haiti is a sovereign state located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea. It occupies the western three-eighths of the island, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.
Haiti is 27,750 square kilometres (10,714 sq mi) in size and has an estimated 10.8 million people, making it the most populous country in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the second-most populous country in the Caribbean as a whole.
