The Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL Inc) Annual Republic Cup is set to commence on Saturday at the Malteenoes Sports Club with action in the Over 40 category.
HS Masters, Ariel Masters, Success Masters and Amazon Masters will battle in the two semi finals from 13:00hrs, while the final will be played at 09:30hrs on Sunday.
The Open final will be contested on Sunday simultaneously with the Over 40 final where Regal All Stars and Success All Stars will vie for supremacy. Regal Masters and Mike’s Wellman will clash in the Masters heavyweight final from 13:30hrs which will bring the curtains down on the tournament. The winning and runner up teams will receive trophies.
This is also being used to help several local teams prepare for the Florida Cup 2 which is set for March 16, 17 and 18 in Orlando.
Regal All Stars and Masters are among several local teams that will journey to Orlando and Captain of Regal Masters Mahendra Hardyal told Kaieteur Sport that they will be using every opportunity to fine tune preparation for their engagement overseas. He added that the squad is a balanced one, but they will not be taking any team lightly, while Richard Latif, one of the most experienced players in the Regal All Stars line up expressed confidence of his team doing well both in the Republic Cup and Florida Cup 2.
Latif, one of the most decorated players in the sport, stated that his team mates are raring to go and are well prepared for both tournaments. (Zaheer Mohamed)
