Senior Superintendent of Police and Commander of ‘D’ Division Fizal Karimbaksh has been removed from the Linden Division with immediate effect. The Police Office of Professional Responsibility has launched a probe into harassment claims leveled against the officer by junior ranks.
Fizal Karimbaksh was removed out of the division yesterday to make way for another Senior Superintendent, Reshi Das, who once served as the Deputy Crime Chief and was one of the persons called to the stand in the President’s assassination plot COI. This publication was told that Karimbaksh was sent to the Strategic Management Unit.
Yesterday, a senior officer who spoke with the newspaper indicated that the investigations into the “harassment” claims were underway for some time now.
Head of the Police Office of Professional Responsibility, Heeralall Mackenlall, confirmed the investigation into the officer.
He said that the investigation was prompted by claims made by a member of the Guyana Police Force who was subsequently dismissed.
This newspaper has been informed that several persons who worked under the officer in every division that he served, have accused him or treating them unfairly and whenever they object, he would use his authority and rank to have them disciplined and or transferred out of the division.
Reliable sources have communicated to this publication that just recently the conduct of the Commander was communicated to two senior government functionaries after it was perceived that the management of the police force was not addressing the matter with the level of urgency it deserved.
