Led by an entertaining half century from Man of the Match Ravi Beharry and a five wicket haul by medium pacer Anwar Buksh, Aurora Knightriders defeated Invader Masters by 50 runs in an exciting final of the Golden Fleece Rice Investment/South Essequibo Cricket Board 40 overs cricket final which was played last Sunday at the Golden Fleece Cricket Ground.
Witnessed by a large and vocal crowd, Aurora won the toss under a clear, blue sky and decided to take first strike. Beharry then led the Knightriders’ charge with a superb 82 (4×6) (8×4). Garfield Phillips supported with 38 (3×6) (3×4), while Roddy Spencer chipped in with a cameo 28 (2×6) (2×4).
Bowling for Masters, D. Lakhan grabbed 3-36, R. Bishop 2-35 and R. Narine 2-37.
Invader Masters got off to a solid start with Barry Alphonso and T. Chan putting on 27 for the first wicket before Chan fell to off spinner Deoraj Dindyal. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals as only Narine with a stroked filled 42 (3×6) (3×4) and L. Daniels with 29 offered a fighting support.
Bowling for the Knightriders, Buksh claimed 5-44, Dindyal 2-28 and Reshad Ally 2-22.
Beharry collected the Man of the Match as well as the batsman with the most runs in the competition awards. Saieef Ally collected the bowler with the most wickets in the competition award. Aurora Knightriders collected the champion trophy along with $50,000,while Masters collected the runner up trophy and $ 25,000.
