The opening night of the Petra’s third annual Corona Futsal tournament, which has a total prize purse of over $2million including a Hero 150cc motorcycle which a lucky fan will win, kicked off on Saturday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue with six matches and continues tonight with six more anticipated matchups.
Among the big winners on Saturday were Future Stars who made light work of Campbellville Extreme 6-0, Back Circle that defeated Broad Street 6-3 and the huge upset victory for Tiger Bay who defeated the tournament’s perennial favourites Sparta Boss.
Fans will enjoy Hairoun Beer special at 5 for $1,000 and Corona at 3 for $1,000, while viewing competitive group matches that will be expected tonight at the National Gymnasium since teams are due to receive incentives for their respective placing in the group stage. The top finishers will get an additional $40,000, second place $30,000, third place $20,000 and fourth place $10,000.
Meanwhile, the championship winner will pocket $600,000, runners-up $300,000 and third place $150,000, and the MVP of the tournament, in addition to a lucky patron will receive one motorbike each from part sponsors Rose Ramdehol through their Hero brand.
