Trinidad- (cnc3.co.tt)- A retired police officer has been committed to stand trial after the Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU) of the Ministry of National Security arrested him for allegedly bringing a Guyanese woman into the country for sexual exploitation.
He has also been charged with serious indecency, rape and indecent assault.
A statement by the Ministry says that on Friday February 16, 2018, retired Police Officer David Rattan was committed to stand trial at the High Court by Magistrate Antoine of the San Fernando 1st Magistrate Court.
In 2013, Rattan was charged under the Trafficking in Persons Act Chapter 12:10 by Woman Police Corporal Hector of the CTU for recruiting, transporting and harbouring a Guyanese female national for the purpose of exploitation.
Rattan is the second Police officer to be charged by the CTU for human trafficking and related offences and committed to stand trial.
The Ministry is asking the public to be vigilant and to take note of predators who lure foreign nationals to Trinidad and Tobago under the guise of assisting with employment and work permits.
