The Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) say that entangled mains contributed to the shutdown of the interconnected Demerara-Berbice system on Monday evening.
The power company explained that at approximately 19:39 hrs on Monday, the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) experienced a system shutdown as a result of entangled mains and burst conductors within close proximity to our Kingston power plant.
“Power was restored at approximately 21:00 hrs with the exception of areas fed by feeders out of the Kingston Plant. As a precautionary measure, these circuits had to be de-energized to facilitate repairs which resulted in some sections of Georgetown being repowered at approximately 00:27 hrs.
“GPL remains cognizant of the inconvenience this interruption caused and offer our sincere apologies,” the power company said.
