Regal Masters, Speedboat and Trophy Stall Angels were crowned champions in their respective categories when the GFSCA/Mike’s Pharmacy, Nauth Motor Spares and Trophy Stall softball tournament concluded on Sunday at Zeeburg.
Regal Masters were indebted to opener Mahase Chunilall who struck a fine half century to anchor their innings in the Maters final against Mike’s Wellman.
Chunilall, who was named man-of-the-match, struck one four and six sixes in a fine 52 as Regal Masters managed 105 all out in 20 overs, batting first. Regal Masters suffered an early set back when they lost the wickets of Eon Abel (01), Troy Kippins (00), Mohendra Arjune (03) and Eric Thomas (01), but Chunilall kept his composure and picked up his runs on both sides of the pitch before he fell in the latter stages of the innings. Mahendra Hardyal stuck an unbeaten 18 with one four and a six, while David Harper made 14. Lester Thom claimed 2-5, Jagdesh Persaud 2-13, Latchman Kallicharran 2-20.
Vivekanand Dinesh and Basil Persaud gave Mike’s Wellman a stable start before Persaud was removed by Parsram Persaud for 10, while Dinesh was dismissed for 17 with one four and a six. A disciplined bowling performance by Regal Masters then applied the brakes on the Mike’s Wellman batting as wickets fell at regular intervals. Wayne Jones made 18 and Greg De Franca 14 as Mike’s Wellman were bowled out for 93 in 19.3 overs. David Harper picked up 3-24, Kippins 2-9, Parsram Persaud 2-18 and Laurie Singh 2-20.

Shilander Ramnauth made 12, while extras assisted with 26 as Kishore Smith claimed three wickets and Mark Harold two. Speedboat responded with 93-4 in 7.1 overs. Lennox Marks slammed one four and four sixes in a top score of 34, while Greg Singh made 25 (1×4, 2×6). P. John picked up two wickets. Smith was voted man-of-the-match.
Trophy Stall Angels beat Mike’s Wellwoman by eight wickets in the Female final. Mike’s Wellwoman batted first and managed 41-3 off their reduced quota of five overs. Matana Cambridge captured 2-12. Trophy Stall Angels responded with 44-2 in 3.1 overs. Ruth George made 18 and Cambridge, who was named player of the match, made 14.
