Defending champions Showstoppers will attempt to keep their quest for the retention of their title on track when they face upset-minded Boom Bang in quarter-final action of the West Demerara / East bank Demerara Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition, at Pouderoyen Tarmac this evening.
The champs, who begun the competition in uncharacteristic fashion, earning a slim 1-0 win over Admiral United, have grown in confidence ever since and their easy dismissal of Harmony Ballers in the Round of 16 must have driven fear into any potential opponent.
Dexroy Adams and Stephon Jupiter have been in scintillating form and they are expected to lead the team’s charge for a semi-final berth.
Boom Bang on the other hand have shown a propensity to not be too perturbed by their opponents on the other half of the pitch, so ruling out their chances of registering another upset might not be a wise choice.
The star-studded ESPN team will face another side that many felt did not have the quality to reach this far, but they did so at the expense of the much fancied Brothers United who they defeated 2-0 in a penalty shootout in the preceding round.
ESPN are leaded with players of high pedigree in the Lythcott brothers Trevon and Kevon and the slippery Pernell Schultz, all of who have been in terrific scoring form.
The Hustlers versus Dream Team matchup is another encounter that should produce fireworks from the first whistle.
The Sunil Logan led outfit has kept under the radar so far in the competition, but by now fans and opponents alike will be having second thoughts about ruling them out following a string of impressive performances.
Their 3-0 triumph over a strong Mocha unit has put teams on notice about their ability to reduce opposing sides defence to shreds.
Kwame Holder is another one of their players with the skills to destroy the best of defences.
Kester Alleyne and Orville Stewart will no doubt be the players whose responsibility it is to lead them to victory.
West Side Ballers and Rising Stars is the other game that is too close to identifying the outcome.
The attendance and atmosphere throughout the competition to date has been tremendous and the Organisers are anticipating another bumper crowd this evening as the event head into the homestretch.
Apart from Banks DIH under its Guinness brand being the main sponsor, Colours Boutique on Robb Street has also added its support to the competition.
