The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Inter- Primary School 10 overs softball cricket competition continued on Friday with matches in Zone two at the No.71 ground.
The competition is sponsored by Davendra Ramgoolam and R and R Auto Rental Services.
The teams have been divided into three zones/clusters with each cluster playing on a separate Friday with 10 Schools listed to play.
Three schools namely Massiah (No.71), No 68 and No 59 Primaries participated with New Market Primary failing show.
In the first match between Massiah and No. 68 Primaries, saw Massiah being asked to bat first and hammering 131-1 in their 10 overs, after losing their first wicket in the first over without a run on the board.
The onslaught was led by Tomesh Hemraj 74 not out (8×4, 5×6) and Lakeraj Ramlakhan 57 not out (3×4, 5×6).
No 68 in reply were skittled out for 20. The top bowlers for Massiah were Sanjay Tilluckram and Tamesh Singh with two wickets each.
In the final, Massiah were asked to take first strike by No. 59 and raced to 108 -2 off their allotment of overs. Top scores were Salim Khan 69 (7×4, 4×6), Ramlakhan made 21 not out (3×4), and Lutesh Singh 14(2×4, 1×6).
No 59 in reply were bundled out for 38. Bowling for Massiah Primary Salim Khan, Matel Kattow and Oudit Omapersaud took two wickets each.
Massiah Primary thus winning the group has joined Skeldon Primary to the grand final so far.
At the end of the day’s competition all the players were presented with exercise books, led pencils and pens. The school received reading materials. All compliments of Hilbert Foster CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club MS.
The competition will continue tomorrow with matches in group three and will see No. 56, No. 51 and No. 48 Primaries in action.
At the end of the competition the winning team will receive a $15,000 girt voucher, while the runner up will collect $10,000. These will go to the players to purchase stationary and school supplies.
The winning and runner up trophies will go to the respective schools.
The competition is being coordinated by chairman of the UCCA Competitions committee, former national wicketkeeper batsman Sydney Jackman. The other members of the committee are former Berbice player Chatterpaul Lionel and Narendranauth Balram. (Samuel Whyte)
