The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club’s (GMRSC), “King of the Strip” Drag Race meet which will see local and Surinamese dragtsers going head to head at the South Dakota Circuit has seen quite a number of competitors confirming their participation for the October 1st event. One of the latest drivers to confirm his participation is two-time 2nd Class Champion and current unlimited class champion Shawn Persaud.
Persaud, who notched victories in the previous three drag meets at the Timehri venue, will be pushing his Toyota Caldina to better his 8.311 seconds which was good enough to win the last GMRSC “Caribbean Invasion” drag race meet, October last.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport yesterday, a very confident Persaud shared that he will be looking to continue his good form but it will be a difficult road ahead for Persaud and his Caldina with the likes of Team Mohamed’s GTR along with added subscription from the Surinamese who all didn’t compete at the Caribbean Invasion last October.
Meanwhile, speedsters who think they have what it takes to outperform Shawn Persaud and the lot at the Caribbean Invasion International drag meet are encouraged by the GMRSC to begin the registration process early to facilitate the entry of competitors into the timing system. Entry forms are available at the GMRSC’s Thomas Lands’ office between normal working hours.
For patrons who are desirous of witnessing the heated races at South Dakota on Sunday, entrance fees are $1000 for adults, $500 for children. The rent-a-tent VIP will be available for $3000.
