Banks DIH Limited hosted the annual shareholders meeting of its Berbice operation. It was the 62nd meeting of the company and the 23rd in Berbice. The meeting was held at the Company’s Location at Main and Peter D’Aguiar (New Street), New Amsterdam.
It was a joyous occasion for those in Berbice; especially those associated with the Company in the Ancient County. The Berbice Branch was adjudged the top performer among the company’s branches across the country.
It was a fulfillment of a promise made by long serving Executive and Berbice Regional Manager, Mr. Reginald Matthews that the Branch will reclaim the Chairman’s Trophy for top performer in the company after losing it last year.
The Branch was outstanding in selling a massive $2.7B, an increase of $72M over the last period.
The Branch sold 1.6 million cases in 2017. It made an after-tax profit of $13.7M for 2017, an increase of $8.5M over 2016.
The New Amsterdam Qik Serv also did well with sales totalling $109M, an increase of $21M.
The Citizens Bank Branch in New Amsterdam which is located next to the Demico Qik Serv is in its third year in operation. It has also approved loans totalling $64M.
Matthews was high in praise for his staff, including Deputy Regional Manager and Sales Manager, Joshua Torrezo.
Matthews focused his address on family in incorporated the Banks Family into the discourse.
He said that Family is very important to us in helping us to become better individuals. He urged those in attendance to use only Banks products and service.
“Whether your kids, nephews, nieces, brother, sisters or friends, encourage them stay Banks.”
He urged that the future generation should be given a chance to take up the mantle so that the company can grow from strength to strength.
Mathews used a number of quotes including one from Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, who said that “One of the only ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out.” He said that it is the same with Banks DIH …we believe in innovation, teamwork and always chartering new courses to make our company successful.
Matthews said that the branch was able to surpass last year’s performance by providing customers with high quality products and excellent services. He quoted Jack Ma (CEO of Ali Baba) “Never ever compete on prices…instead compete on services and innovation.”
The feature address was given by Chairman and Managing Director Clifford Reis. He noted that the Company made an overall after tax profit of $4.243B.
The company was able to do well by weathering the effects of an artificial increase in foreign exchange rates during the year by prudent management of the company’s assets and resources.
He thanked his management teams which include the Directors and Executives for a job well done. He also expressed gratitude to workers and shareholders, customers and all who contributed to the success of the company.
The company continued its tradition of presenting cheques to two schools, this time Black Bush Polder Secondary and No. 48 Primary School.
The Domestic Violence and Counselling Centre at Corriverton also received a cheque.
Among those who attended were the Mayor of New Amsterdam Mrs. Winifred Haywood; and Commander Police ‘B’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Lyndon Alves.
