World Cancer Day, being observed today, is aimed at saving millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, and by pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action.
Under the theme ‘We can, I can’, World Cancer Day 2018 will explore how everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
“For the Children Sake Foundation” in collaboration with the Guyana Cancer Society-Linden Chapter, One Mile Health Centre and Adolescent Health Unit of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) held a Satellite Table on the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Park on Friday to raise awareness.
Executive Director of “For The Children Sake Foundation”, and Regional Representative for Peer Educators under the MOPH, Mr. Vernon Todd said World Cancer Day is an International Day observed on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
“Just as cancer affects everyone in different ways, all people have the power to take various actions to reduce the impact that cancer has on individuals, families and communities.”
Todd also encouraged people to join the movement, today, to bring happiness into patient’s life.
According to Todd, World Cancer Day is a chance to reflect on what you can do, make a pledge and take action; whatever you choose to do.
