Dear Editor,
For a long time now bees have been invading and attacking teachers, children and parents at the All Saints Primary School in New Amsterdam.
They come from the surrounding area nearby the school. While bees provide us with honey, it is a very dangerous situation when they attack in their swarms as this can result in death. What a tragedy it will be if a child is killed in this way.
Today, I saw the children taking their class garbage bags and emptying them in the garbage bins that are in the yard. These bins have bees hovering inside and around the top. The children are at risk of being stung by the bees. I saw one little boy using the bin cover to hit and ward off the bees while his friend was busy trying to empty the garbage.
Some time ago a child got stung and ended up with swollen eyes. This was highlighted in the television news in Berbice, but Editor, the bees are still there.
I am writing this letter so that the relevant authorities may become fully aware of this dangerous situation and act with some urgency before something serious happens.
Thank you.
