Neighbour jailed in absence for felonious wounding- Arrest warrant issued

An arrest warrant has been issued for an East Canje resident who has been sentenced to four months in jail in his absence.
Somdat Indal, 46, of 1178 New Area, East Canje, Berbice, was yesterday found guilty of felonious wounding.
Indal wounded his 59-year-old neighbour Roopchan Megnauth of 1177 New Area, East Canje Berbice. The incident occurred on October 30, 2017.
Indal appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecuting the case Corporal Winston Poliah informed the court that the victim and the accused are neighbours; however they do not get along.
Around 17:00 hrs on the day in question the defendant was consuming alcohol with some friends. During that time the accused was passing by.
The men began to argue and got into a scuffle. They were parted, but Indal went and retrieved a piece of wood which he used to lash Megnauth to the head causing him to fall on the ground and receive further injuries to his body. Indal then fled the scene.
The matter was reported and Indal was arrested and charged. He was granted bail and failed to show up in court after.
