A file on the rape of a woman by two policemen at the Turkeyen Police Station on New Year’s morning has been returned to the police by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further investigation to be done.
The file was returned to ‘C’ Division last week.
Once investigators would have obtained the requested statements, the file will be sent back to the DPP for advice. The alleged rape is also being investigated by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility.
The two police constables have since been transferred to the Tactical Service Unit (TSU) awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
According to reports, a Sophia woman went to the Turkeyen Police Station to make a report against someone who had threatened to kill her and her family. Reports are that after making the report, the victim asked to use the washroom.
It was there that the two policemen reportedly followed her and they both raped her. However, the accused are claiming that the victim went to the station to make a report after which she started taking off her clothes.
Kaieteur News was told that the two ranks started “hustling” the woman and they subsequently negotiated with her to pay $10,000 each for sex. She reportedly agreed. However, when the ranks failed to pay the woman, she allegedly accused them of rape.
Additional statements have to be taken from the victim and suspects.
