A 38-year-old Crabwood Creek woman was arrested yesterday morning after authorities attached to the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted a search at her Upper Corentyne residence. A quantity of counterfeit US currency and a bulletproof vest were found.
Reports are that CANU ranks, acting on information, led them to the woman’s residence. They searched the home Tuesday morning for arms, ammunition and narcotics. During the search, ranks discovered some two dozen US$100 bills and one US$50 bill suspected to be counterfeit currency along with a bulletproof vest in the woman’s wardrobe.
The wardrobe is located in the upper flat of her two-storey house. A further search unearthed two sets of US $100 bills fixated in the ceiling of the house.
The woman was immediately arrested and taken to the Springlands Police Station, as the investigation continues.
Sources in the neighbourhood told Kaieteur News that the woman is well known for conducting the illegal business of smuggling items from Suriname.
The police are investigating.
