Guyana had three players that featured on the Pan American Hockey Federation’s (PAHF) all star male and female teams of the historic and locally hosted, Pan American Indoor Cups (PAIC) which was competed at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall October 16-21 last.
Although Guyana didn’t medal in either of the Male or Female Categories which Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America won respectively, Marzana Fiedtkou, Robert France and Medroy Scotland’s standout performances earned them spots in the tournament’s All-Star XI’s.
Fiedtkou, who copped a place in the women’s all-star XI, featured in Guyana’s female team that finished sixth out of a pool of seven.
Meanwhile, the Golden Arrowhead had to entries in the men’s all-star XI with Robert France who captained Guyana’s men and his teammate Medroy Scotland, who was adjudged the best goalkeeper of tournament, rounding off the two spots.
Minister of Social Cohesion with the responsibility for Sport, Dr. George Norton, had the privilege of presenting the athletes with their certificates of achievement from the PAHF, during a brief courtesy call at his Main Street office. During the greet Norton congratulated the players on their outstanding performance and encouraged them to continue the good work.
Head of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB), Philip Fernandes elated, “It is a great achievement for such a small hockey nation like Guyana. In the past we’ve only had one all-star player and now we have three which I think speaks volumes of our progress in the sport locally.”
