One week after being slapped with eight fraud related charges, a real estate officer once again appeared in the Georgetown
Magistrates’ Courts where two additional fraud charges were read to him.
Twenty-eight-year old Vishaul Moonilal, of Lot 90 Craig Street, Campbellville, who was recently sentenced to 68 months’ imprisonment for scamming several persons of house lots, appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The first charge alleged that on November 19, 2014 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud he obtained through a Citizen’s Bank account on the name of Diane Cosby US$10,000, to pay capital gains tax at Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), knowing same to be false.
It was further alleged that on November 7, 2014 at Georgetown, he obtained US$10,000 from Diane Cosby, by falsely pretending that the money would be used to hire an attorney and legal fees, knowing same to be false.
He denied both charges after they were read to him by the Magistrate.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant but asked that conditions be attached.
The man’s attorney, Marcel Bobb, told the court that his client appealed the Magistrate sentencing and he is out on bail pending appeal.
The lawyer added that at the trial the evidence will show the motive of the victim. Magistrate Azore then granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on each charge. She instructed the defendant to report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday until the completion of the trial.
He must also lodge his passport at the Court registry.
Last week, Moonilal was charged for swindling $4.1M from Diane Cosby, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to survey 10-21 Plantation Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara and to do an appraisal for the lot. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on February 22.
