Joshua Gopaul and Eathan Lee have assumed the early lead, as both players are undefeated in the National Junior Qualifers 2018 after the initial three rounds of play which began last Saturday at the National Aquatic Center. The tournament saw 24 juniors registered from various schools across Guyana participating with the majority coming from Marian Academy.
Registering wins in the first round was Joshua Gopaul who got the better of Gerath DaSilva. Ghansham Alllijohn defeated Joshua Williams, Akili Theophile won against Alexander Ally, Nellisha Johnson outwitted Andrew Ally, while Waveney Johnson was better than Rebecca Ramlall. Closing off the winners row in the first round was Rachael Ramlal who defeated Savir Gookul, while Jaden Taylor and Odit Rodrigues played to a draw.
In round two play, Joshua Gopaul defeated Dwayne Bess, Ghansham Allijohn followed up his round one win with another against Roshawn Washington, Akili Theophile continued his form to defeat Rachael Ramlal, Sasha Shariff won against Nellisha Johnson and Eathan Lee got the better of Waveney Johnson.
As the second round heated up, Jaden Taylor eased past Runako Williams, Odit Rodrigues handed Savir Gookul his second loss, Nickel Charles defeated Alexander Ally, Rebecca Ramlall won against John Wong, Gareth Da Silva defeated Zackary Persaud and Andrew Ally got past Joshua Williams.
Joshua Gopaul, Eathan Lee, Jaden Taylor, Nellisha Johnson, Dwayne Bess, Roshawn Washington, Chelsea Juma, Rachael Ramlal, Savir Gookul and John Wong, Waveney Johnson all won during the final round of play last weekend.
The points after the completion of the three rounds, Joshua Gopaul and Eathan Lee 3, Jaden Taylor 2.5, Sasha Shariff, Ghansham Allijohn, Akili Theophil, Waveney Johnson, Nellisha Johnson, Dwayne Bess, Roshawn Washington, Rachael Ramlal and Chelsea Juma all on 2 points, Udit Rodrigues 1.5, Runako Williams, Gareth DaSilva, Rebecca Ramlall, Andrew Ally, Nickel Charles, John Wong, Savir Gookul and Zackary Peraud all on 1 point each.
The tournament continues this Saturday from 13:00hrs and Sunday from 10:00hrs for the final four rounds.
