A real estate officer who was recently sentenced to 68 months imprisonment for scamming several persons of house lots, was on Friday remanded to prison after being slapped with eight fraud related charges.
Vishaul Moonilal, 48, of Bel Air Park, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge alleged that on February 5, 2015, he obtained $370,000 from Diane Cosby, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to survey 10-21 Plantation Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
The second charge alleged that on March 20, 2015 at Georgetown, he obtained the sum of US$450 from Cosby for a court case, knowing same to be false.
It was also alleged that on June 16, 2015 the accused obtained US$2,000 from Cosby, by falsely pretending that the money would be used to hire an attorney and legal fees, knowing same to be false.
It is alleged that on June 11, 2015, Moonilal obtained US$3,000 to do an appraisal for Lot 10-21 Plantation Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
It was further alleged that during the month of October 2015, he obtained US$2,000 from Cosby by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell her several house lots at Plantation Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, knowing same to be false.
Moonilal was also charged for obtaining US$4050 from Cosby, by falsely pretending that the money was to be paid for surveying the property he sold her.
It was also alleged that on November 6, 2015, he obtained $600,000 from Cosby by falsely pretending that the money was for him to survey the house lots.
The last charged alleged that on June 16, 2017, he obtained the sum of $400,000 from Cosby by pretending that he was in a position to retain a lawyer on her behalf.
Moonilal was represented by Attorney-at-law Marcel Bobb.
Police Prosecutor objected to bail being granted to him citing that he is currently serving a sentence for similar charges.
Moonilal was remanded to prison and he was instructed to make his next court appearance on January 24.
