A mixed 12-member jury was empanelled before Justice Navindra Singh on Thursday to oversee the murder trial of Radesh Guyadeen.
Guyadeen is before the Court for a murder which occurred back in 2003.
According to the allegation on May 4, 2003, Guyadeen known as “Bruks man” murdered Nandram Manouar, a farmer nicknamed “Nano,” of Lancaster Village, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
The incident allegedly happened at a wedding house in the said village. According to reports, the accused stabbed Manouar in the chest.
The man was accused of puncturing Guyadeen’s bicycle wheel shortly after he left the wedding house. He was heard a short while later screaming that he had been stabbed.
A group of persons reportedly rushed to Manouar’s rescue. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, (GPHC) where he died while receiving treatment. Guyadeen fled the scene and was never seen again.
He reportedly fled the jurisdiction and was hiding out in Suriname. He returned to Guyana, some ten years later. He was arrested for the crime while liming at a drug block in the same village.
Police had received information about his whereabouts and swarmed down on the corner, where they found the accused smoking a marijuana joint.
He was taken to the Mahaica Police Station and later placed before the court in 2014.
Guyadeen has since pleaded not guilty to the indictment read to him in the High Court. The case against him will be presented by State Attorneys, Abigail Gibbs and Natasha Backer.
He will be represented by Attorney -at -Law Maxwell Mc Kay at the trial which is scheduled to continue on Monday January 15.
