Thirteen passengers were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday afternoon after a route 44 mini-bus driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle.
The driver has been identified as 41-year old Eustace Gentle, a father of nine, who hails from Buxton.
According to his 26-year old conductor, Ryan Muesa, “We de coming from de East Coast to town. When we approach de light (traffic light) it was sayin’ green and a canter that de coming across just jump (the traffic light). Me driver see the canter, but in the space of time he couldn’t stop fuh do anything”.
It was while trying to avoid colliding with the canter that the mini-bus, registered as BWW 1234, ended up in a nearby canal on Sheriff Street, after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Kaieteur News understands that there were no fatalities, however 13 persons were rushed to GPHC.
The driver was said to be in a critical condition, while the other victims are nursing broken bones and lacerations
Among the victims are Ellen Seaforth, who is said to be in her 60s, Fiona Seaforth, 39 and Angela Hackett, who is in her 40s.
These victims are all relatives of Asana Seaforth who was in tears at the GPHC. She was too distraught to offer a comment.
