An armed bandit robbed a 21-year-old man around 20:00 hrs on Tuesday at Crown and New Garden Streets, Georgetown and fled the scene in a burgundy Toyota Allion motorcar which had a Green Ice taxi logo printed on the vehicle.
The victim has been identified as Dominique Garraway of Kitty. He was robbed of two gold bands, a pair of shades and $25,000 in cash.
According to information received, the victim and his friends went to a fast food restaurant at Camp and Middle Street where they spent about an hour.
Before leaving the restaurant, they observed a burgundy Toyota Allion motorcar with a Green Ice Logo printed on the side of the vehicle. It was parked in front of the restaurant with the driver and another individual sitting inside.
The police said that the victims left the restaurant and walked east along Middle Street, Georgetown. While in the vicinity of Crown and New Garden, Streets, Garraway claimed that the same burgundy vehicle drove up New Garden Street and stopped in front of them.
Only the driver was in the vehicle. The victim further alleged that he then noticed the individual, who was previously sitting in the car at the restaurant, walking along the south eastern side of Crown Street. This man approached him and his friends and pulled out a gun.
Kaieteur News was informed that the suspect relieved the victim of his valuables while his friends ran away. The suspect then joined the burgundy car and escaped.
When the owner of Green Ice Taxi Service was contacted yesterday for a comment, he said that the police never informed him of his vehicle being involved in a robbery. In addition, he has many burgundy Toyota Allion motorcars working at his base. He said that some criminals use the magnetic strips on their doors so it could have been any crook with a magnetic strip that he would use interchangeably on a cab.
No one has been arrested.
