First timers as well as junior competitors will have their way and say come February 4 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when the Guyana Amateur Power-lifting Federation (GAPLF) brings off their first championship for the year, Novices/Juniors.
An exciting and promising field took to the competitive platform last February when the action unfolded at the Banks DIH Sports Club, Thirst Park. This year is anticipated to be equally exciting.
Sponsorship to date has come from Fitness Express and Buddy’s Gym. The GAPLF is reminding athletes and coaches that the rules will be in full effect with the only leverage being when it comes to attire, “The GAPLF will relax only the singlet rule for Novice men and Novice women Only.
“Tights or biker shorts will be allowed if no Singlet can be obtained, but it must be cut off 3 inches above the knee (Novices Only). (2) Round Neck T-Shirt (3) Full length Socks (football hose) for Deadlifts. (4) No Velcro belts or belts with padding (Novices Only) (5) No Construction Boots (6) All other IPF powerlifting rules will be in Full Effect,” The ruling body noted.
Weigh-in time would be 07:00hrs on February 4 with competition time for the first flight set for 09:00hrs.
Last year’s overall winners were as follows:
Female Unequipped – Cavis Rodney (84+kg)
