Guyanese speedsters hold their own in CMRC 2017
King conquers Caribbean; Team Mohamed’s invincible

Although Guyana failed to dethrone Trinidad & Tobago for the Overall Team title in the Seaboard Marine sponsored Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) last year, ending as the runners-up, the best driver accolade which 2016 sportsman of the year Kristian Jeffrey had won, remained with the Golden Arrowhead after veteran racer Andrew King usurped him.

Local racing legend Andrew King was announced as the champion in the highest class of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships, the Group Four all-wheel-drive division after accumulating the most points over the four legs that took place in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, culminating in the Land of Many Waters.
King, who has been a dedicated motor racer for some 43 years was proud to receive the accolade but explained to Kaieteur Sport that, “The win is kind of bitter sweet. I’ve been doing the CMRC for many years with my best finish being second overall twice but this year the championship wasn’t much subscribed with the previous champion Kristian Jeffrey missing most of the season due to commitments in Europe.”
He further went on to note that, “To say I dominated is a stretch but the points I’ve accumulated puts me on top and I’m happy to be the champion.”
Team Mohamed’s, a class above the opposition
Before the final CMRC leg at Guyana’s South Dakota Circuit, Team Mohamed’s was well on its way to retaining the Super Bike Overall Team Title after blowing away the competition in the three previous Jamaica, T&T and Barbados.
Not only did they make light work of their opponents but also the tracks after setting Lap records at each of those circuits. Team Mohamed’s biker, Bryce Prince set those Lap records when he recorded 1 minute 1 second in Barbados; 41seconds in Trinidad & Tobago and 1 minute 15 seconds in Jamaica.
Owner of Team Mohamed’s, Azruddin Mohamed had expressed to Kaieteur Sport before the final leg that he believed his three Yamaha R6 motorcycles were unbeatable by any rival biker and his team’s only opposition was their Overall Track record at South Dakota, Matt Truelove’s 33.3 seconds, that they were seeking to better.
In the final leg, the record wasn’t broken but Team Mohamed’s won every single Superbike race, proving Azruddin’s claim of his team invincibility. The team of Matt Truelove, Bryce Prince and Jason Aguilar won all of their races while occupying all the podium spots minus the solitary race which Truelove crashed out of.

CMRC Final Leg well organised
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) two-day International Race of Champions event which served not only as the local championships but the final leg of the CMRC last November, was accurately described as a successful meet by President of the GMRSC Rameez Mohammed.
Last year was the first time that a packed 27-race programme was introduced by the local administrators with races during the initial day at the South Dakota Circuit which is usually has qualifiers only.
In addition, fans were thrilled not only by Team Mohamed’s unstoppable Superbike trio and 2016 Group four Champion Kristian Jeffrey’s (who won the Guyana leg) Mitsubishi Evo, but also witnessed an SR-3 Radicals demonstration along with professional drift cars from Trinidad & Tobago.
Mohammed, who was also part of the racing action winning two of the three races competed in the Starlet Cup, stated that he was satisfied with the smooth and on-time run-off of all the events and announced that the 27-race programme was the beginning of a larger local motor racing calendar.
