Dear Editor,
Please permit me some space in your most informative newspaper to respond to the Prime Minister’s representative here in Berbice, a man on whom taxpayers monies is being wasted to pay a salary, and also the cost of renting an office with staff .
During the colonial days this Berbice area was run by one District Commissioner who was a man qualified and experienced, and who did make decisions on the spot, without any political directives. But after we became a republic this region was headed by a Regional Chairman and at the moment, we do have a functioning Regional Chairman by the name of Mr. David Armogan, a man that is very Educated, Approachable, Experienced, Humble and very Co-operative .
Since the coalition we have seen taxpayers sweat and blood being squandered to run a so-called Prime Minister’s representative office.
The article carried on page eleven of Kaieteur News 23/12/2017 clearly indicates that the trucks pictured are vehicles used for production and are properly parked off the road. They all have reflectors which are approved by the traffic department.
If one were to take measurements of the road where these trucks are, one will find much more room for motorists to manoeuvre than the three Bush Polder bridges —the number 52, and number 66 bridges. If these trucks that affect Gobin Harbhajan are indeed violating the traffic rules it is a matter for the traffic police not Gobin.
While I agree that our road reserves should be kept clear, there are many more important things for this so-called representative to look at, such as the DONKEYS, COWS, HORSES, PIGS, GOATS, and SHEEP that roam the Corentyne main road. Some run across the road suddenly by day or night causing thousands of accidents.
If you are to check the records, the parked vehicles do not run across the road suddenly. I wonder if the Prime Minister does not feel ashamed to have a representative such as this one in Region Six.
Sir, many moons ago Mr.Harbhajan had an article with his photograph where he claimed he caught a truck with Guysuco’s fertilizer at a rice farmer’s home, can the PM rep. throw some light on this matter seeing that he loves to publish his photo in the press, we are awaiting an answer from him on this matter.
I was once an RDC councillor in Region Six and I had suggested for Govt. to build a farm to market road using the #51/52 dam which runs from the sea shore to Yakusari in the Canje Creek.
This is a solid red sand dam with a trench alongside. The PPP was in office and I was a ROAR councillor and because of this my proposal was not good. I resigned because of corruption in the PPP and Mr. Latiff Haroon ( Tom ) replaced me. He also renewed the call for that dam to be made into a farm to market road but without success.
A few years ago Mr.David Subnauth, a member of the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce suggested that the # 58/59 village dam be made into a farm to market road. This idea came from Mr. Subnauth but of late, I see Mr Harbhajan is saying it is his idea.
Sorry this is not the truth. By the way I would like President Granger to investigate Mr.Harbhajan and his office to see if we are getting our value for money because we feel this office is doing more harm than good.
