Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC) awarded opening batsman Dominique Rikhi their 2017 Most Valuable Player at its year end awards. Rikhi headlined the awards following a successful 2017 season which saw the Queens, New York based team featuring in both of the Eastern American Cricket Association (EACA) finals.
In the first year playing under the RHLCC banner, a merger of Richmond Hill Cricket Club and Liberty Sports Club, the club entered the season as the defending EACA T20 champs. Trinson Carmichael took over the captaincy of a revamped unit and led the team brilliantly to both finals in one of New York’s elite leagues.
At a dinner and presentation held at the newly reopened Golden Arrow Bar and Lounge at 107-14 101st Street in Ozone Park, Queens, the team honoured its players in recognition of their tremendous performances and contributions to the successful season.
Captain, Trinson Carmichael, was named the 40 Over Season best bowler, while Wahid Ward was named best batsman and Altaaf Habibula took away the best fieldsman. Habibulla also bagged the T20 Season best bowler, Rikhi the best batsman and Brandon Boodhoo the best fieldsman. The team recognized players for their outstanding match performances also. The honours were highlighted by centuries from Ward and Rikhi and five-wicket hauls by Carmichael and Ward.
The presentation included the club’s Social Team, which plays on Saturday and is currently recruiting new members. Founding member and Captain Dilly Khilawan took home the Most Valuable Player award for the season. Youth player Moien Khan took home the best bowler award, while Naresh Rambhrose was named best batsman.
Special acknowledgement awards were presented to The Club’s 2017 sponsors, B&R Sheet Metal Corp and Rockaway Group of Companies. The league team manager Toons Kristona and Social Team manager Ricardo Sarjoo were also acknowledged for their dedicated work with the respective teams. EACA President and RHLCC member Rudy Persaud was also honored at the event which he played a vital role in making happen.
The event marked the end of the team’s 2017 season. The 2018 season will bowl off in February of 2018 when #TheBlueNation heads south for the winter to Sarasota, Florida where they will be hosted by the internationally renowned Sarasota International Cricket Club for a couple of matches before returning to New York to begin preparation for the summer schedule.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, management team and players of RHLCC we would like to wish the entire cricketing community especially our friends in New York cricket circuit Happy Holidays and a blessed new year in 2018, a release from the club informed.
RHLCC would like to thank Jemtex, located on 106th Street and 101 Avenue in Queens, New York for preparing the wonderful trophies and awards for the 2017 event.
