Following the completion of the quarterfinals of the Mohamed’s Enterprise/New Era Entertainment’s fourth annual futsal tournament which were all played on Thursday evening at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) hard court in the mining town of Linden, the semifinalists are now decided.
The first out of the four winners were NK Ballers that kicked off the evening’s play in fantastic fashion after edging Nutman All-Stars 7-6 in a 13-goal thriller. Joel McKinnon and Donovan France both netted a brace each while Keon Sears, Kennard Simon and Jermaine Grandison all netted once in the victory for the Ballers.
On the score sheet for the losers were Tyrie Macalister who netted a hat-trick along with Stephen Tappin, Andrew Mayer and Rowain Adams who scored one goal respective in the loss.
Board Money Hard Knocks defeated Good Fellas in a similar 7-6 fashion in the second game of the night. Keyan Batson led the Hard Knocks victory charge by scoring four goals, while his team-mates Clive Nobrega (two goals) and Randy Small (One goal) contributed to the win. For Good Fellas, Deshawn Joseph scored a hat-trick while Mark McLean netted two goals and Cameron Wills one goal in the nervy loss.
The third quarterfinal was another close match in which Spaniards defeated Swag 5-4. Kenneth Opara, Benjamin Opara and Curtez Kellman scored one-goal each, while Darren Benjamin scored a brace in the win for Spaniards. Colwyn Drakes scored a hat-trick and Shane Luckie scored one goal in Swag’s lost.
The event was capped off in fine fashion as Silver Bullets shot past Customs FC 13-10 in the final quarterfinal match. Damian Williams scored a hat-trick and Jermaine Samuels assisted with a hat-trick to help Bullets come out on top in the 23-goal thriller.
The tournament will take a one week break and resume next Saturday with both the semifinal matches. Hard knocks will play Spaniards at 19:30hrs, while Silver Bullets will come against NK Ballers at 21:30hrs for a chance in the final that will kick off Boxing Night at the same MSC hard court venue.
The winners of the tournament will pocket $500,000 while second place finishers will receive $150,000 and third place will pocket $50,000.
