Dear Sir,
During the heyday of WPA, former President, the late L.F.S Burnham’s initials were publicity touted as: “Look For Someone Better”. This was fashioned by the working People’s Alliance. But Burnham’s counter was the “Worst Possible Alternative”, for the WPA. Guyana’s first Executive President was right in his assessment from all indications, yes.
This is definitely so with Professor, Clive Thomas as the head of the State Assets Recovery Agency. It was always a joy to stand, paying keen attention and listening to Clive Thomas, replicating the failed economic policies of the PNC, at WPA meetings in the 80’s. One such instance, which was by far Thomas’s masterpiece, was “The insurmountable accumulation of internal debt, with the defunct Ministry of National Mobilisation’.
The Ministry, which was created to do party work, at the time of its closure was straddled with a debt of $52M, equivalent to US$13M at the time. In today’s exchange it would be worth US$682.5M. Would the goodly professor, with a Doctorate attached, pursue this State Assets Recovery, or would he prove the late L.F.S Burnham right as the Worst Possible Alternative?
Surely, before Dr. C. Y. Thomas “rides off into the sunset” since as an octogenarian, his time maybe limited, he should provide the nation with the relevant information of his intention. And least, before we forget, he should order an inventory into the PNC’s Sub- District Offices and K.S.I properties. Were they legally acquired?
He should not allow us to forget the palls around former Prime Minister, Hammie Green’s residence ; train engines that were donated to Zambia, when the railway was scrapped, and last but not the least the infamous purchase of the barge, supposedly to boost the then Guyana Electricity Corporation power supply.
Professor, C.Y Thomas let the brother’s soul Rest In Peace. People’s Power, no Dictator; don’t fail this noble, dedicated and world renowned historian. Pursue the State Assets Recovery from the clutches of the PNC, in the same vein of the PPP/C.
Yours truly,
Samora N, Komo.
