Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman yesterday remanded two men to prison after they allegedly trailed a pastor from a bank and robbed him at gunpoint.
Renahart Khan, 31, fish vendor , of Lot 430 La Parfaite Harmonie, and Alexandra LaCruz, 25, a mason, both denied the charge which alleged that on November 22, last, at Church Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, while armed with guns, robbed Eldon Anderson of $1.8M in cash.
Khan was represented by Attorney-at-law, Tiffany Jeffrey.
The lawyer asked that her client be placed on reasonable bail since he was placed on an identification parade and was not pointed out.
LaCruz was represented by Attorney-at-law, George Thomas, who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail citing that he is the sole breadwinner for his family.
Police Prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail being granted to the defendants based on the serious nature of the offence.
The penalty the charge attracts and the fact that a gun was used to commit the offence.
The Prosecutor added that if bail is granted to the defendants they would not returned to court for the trial.
Both men were instructed to make their next court appearance on December 11.
According to reports the defendants who were in a car robbed the 66-year-old pastor at gunpoint, after trailing him from the bank.
The victim, of Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was lured out of his car after a Silver Toyota Spacio struck his vehicle from behind.
When he stepped out to investigate, two armed men exited the Spacio and held him at gunpoint and relieved him of the cash before making good their escape.
