Idris Deen will always be remembered as a strong-willed person who sincerely held on to his convictions and was eloquent and articulate in expressing his views, said his friend, Vibert Parvatan.
He was responsible and caring in his various roles as father, brother, relative, colleague or friend, he added.
Idris Deen formerly of Skeldon, Corriverton and Lamaha Street, Georgetown, died on Monday, November 13, 2017 in Canada. He was buried there the following day..
As a Member of Parliament, he was fierce, vocal, combative and convincing. He served as Member of Parliament during the tenure of Forbes Burnham. He was a member of the People’s National Congress.
“I am proud that he always regarded me and treated me as a true friend being loyal, thoughtful and considerate.”
His studies in Norway on Forestry matters allowed him to play a key role in environmental matters when he served in the Forestry Commission.
Beneath the façade of a loud voice, moving hands and piercing eyes was a kind, soft-hearted, genuine human being who reached out to help others, Mr Parvatan said.
“Like all of us, he has had in his earthly life pleasant and difficult situations and both joys and sorrows. Both emotions and the general experiences of life he carried in his wide and varied activities.
“In recent years since Idris left Guyana and with his illness, I have missed our daily morning and evening telephone conversations. I will continue to miss him, remember him and pray for him.
“He often said to me in addition to his many Shakespearean quotations ‘May Almighty God in His infinite mercy bless you’.
I would say the same now to him, Parvatan said
