The body of Reginald Ramswamey, 46, a former cane harvester at the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) will be exhumed on Monday for a Post Mortem Examination to be conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr. Neehaul Singh. This was confirmed by Divisional Commander Lindon Alves.
“Based on persons now coming forward and claiming they have reasons to suspect that the person buried is their relative, we are bound to exhume so that they can be satisfied that the body is that of their relative”, Alves said.
Ramswamey’s partly decomposed body was discovered a few weeks ago in the vicinity of the Port Mourant Community High School. The body, after spending days at the mortuary was eventually buried by police in B Division.
It was said at that time that no relative came forward to identify the body. Ramswamey went missing on the 6th October from his Ankerville, Port Mourant home and was never seen or heard from since.
The dead man’s sister, Annie Ramswamey, 43, who spoke with Kaieteur News said that her brother visited her on October 5, and requested some money, which she gave to him. He then left and told her he was heading home.
She stated that weeks passed and she had not seen or heard from her brother, so she visited his home to inquire from his wife of his whereabouts. The wife at that time claimed that Ramswamey went missing on October 6 but could not answer why she did not inform relatives that the man was missing. Annie said that the wife also refused to visit the station to report her husband missing.
She stated that the very next day, she and other relatives began searching for her missing brother. It was during their search that someone informed them that a decomposed body was found at the school compound.
“We go to Skeldon hospital and find out and how we describe he, everything was correct. The person send we to the police at Springlands to talk to them and a police tell we that he will give the porter ice for the body but he never go. He gave a number for a next CID so Monday we went to Whim Police Station and them ask we if we want do a Post Mortem and that how dem done bury he since the 15th of last month”, she disclosed.
