Amy Grant aiming to trump the Pool and Track at the National Schools Championships
The Multi talented Amy Grant known for her exploits in swimming, athletics and music will take the same trip again like she did this time last year when she won the Champion Girl trophy in swimming in the girls Under-16 category

where she won the 50 meters freestyle, 50 meters backstroke and 50 meters butterfly at the annual National Schools Track and Field, Cycling and Swimming championships.
Grant also represented District 11 on the track in the same age group. She placed 5th in the finals where she had to run two 800 meters at the National Stadium, Providence in the space of three hours.
This year she has qualified again in the pool and the track. The year has not gone well for Grant since she had won five competitive races in March, 2017 at the GASA Republic Anniversary Long Course Swim Meet which also served as a trial for Carifta and Goodwill 2017.
At the Long Course Meet, Grant won the 1500 m, 800m, 100m and 50m freestyle along with a National record in the Girls 50m butterfly which she swam in the Girls 15-17 age group. Grant has been under the radar since March, with no swimming competition and hardly any swimming as she prepares for CXC exams in May next year.
Grant left The Bishops’ High School and returned to St Roses High School in the last term of Fourth Form (April 2017). On November 1, 2017, Grant represented St Roses High as part of a six member team at the Ministry of Public Health Inter School Fitness Challenge at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Eleven Secondary Schools participated with some schools coming from as far as Bartica and Berbice. St Roses High School walked away with the Fittest Male and Fittest Female titles.
Dedicated St Roses Basketball player Quesi Roberts took the male title and national swim champion Amy Grant emerged victorious with the female title. The champions received medals and plaques and have been promised gift vouchers from Giftland.
On November 5th, four days after the fitness challenge three Secondary Schools were chosen to participate in the first ever Guyana Open High School Putting Championship at the Lusignan Golf Course as part of the overall Guyana Open Golf Championship 2017.
The schools were Queen’s College, The Bishops’ High School and St Roses High. Grant was part of the six member team representing the winning team, St Roses High and was one of the four students who scored to give St Roses High the winner’s crown.
The dedicated Grant will be looking to become Champion Girl once more at this year Schools National Swimming Championship 2017 and if possible to medal on the track.
