Dear Editor
The political situation in Zimbabwe has attracted world attention. The days of President Mugabe are clearly numbered and it is only a matter of time before he is forced by the military and from his own party to resign.
The situation in Zimbabwe has important lessons, the most important of which is that regardless of one’s contribution to party and country, a time will come when one would have to make way for others, in particular younger leaders who have displayed over the years loyalty and committment to the cause of party and country.
At 94, Mugabe should have long realized that his time is up and graciously pave the way for younger and more capable and energetic leaders. The final straw that led to his political demise was his attempt to foist his wife as his successor which clearly did not go down well with the military and the party which he founded.
It remains to be seen how the drama will unfold but the writing is clearly on the wall. He will have to go voluntarily or being forced out of office.
What a sad end to a man who was once regarded as the Father of the Nation and the architect of the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe.

‘Sad end to a man once regarded as the architect Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle’
Correction on the headline
Should have read
‘Sad end to a man once regarded as the architect of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and his destruction of his country once regarded as the food basket of Africa’
A lesson to the world for those who try to follow a ‘group think’ economic and political philosophy
