Following the successful hosting of its inaugural Prime Minister’s T20 Cup, the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc (GSCL Inc) has recognised the services of international softball commentator Onkar
Onkar Singh accepts the plaque from GSCL Inc President Ian John in the presence of members of the GSCL Inc and supporters.
Singh at a simple ceremony held on Tuesday night at GNIC SC.
The organisation presented Singh with a commemorative plaque in honour of his long standing commitment to the sport. Singh, an overseas based Guyanese, who currently resides in New York, is also the President of the Schenectady Softball Cricket Association in the USA.
He expressed gratitude to the GSCL Inc and lauded them on a well organised Prime Minister’s T20 Cup. Singh who began his commentary career in the Florida Cup in 2000, and attends all softball tournament around the world, added that the Prime Minister’s Cup was second to none and it gives him great pleasure to see players and fans alike enjoy the game to the maximum. The 54-year old Singh was born on Campbellville.
President of the GSCL Inc Ian John said that Singh’s contribution to the game as a commentator should not go unnoticed and the GSCL Inc is looking forward to his continued support.
John indicated that the Prime Minister’s T20 Cup will be an annual tournament and they will continue to work together for the growth of the sport, with bigger prizes expected in the 2018 edition.
He expressed gratitude the Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Sports Dr. George Norton and sponsors for their input.
