A 33-year-old gold miner is in a critical condition after being shot by a gun-toting robber in an Avocado Street, East Ruimveldt hairdressing salon around 13.00 hrs yesterday.
Paul Chow, of Kitty, was shot in the chest during a struggle with the robber. He was scheduled to undergo surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Chow was waiting on his wife when the attack occurred.
His wife told Kaieteur News that Chow had accompanied her to the hairdressing salon and was sleeping in a chair when the robber entered. His wife and the owner of the establishment were the only other occupants.
“He (the robber) came in with a gun and said, ‘Y’all give me everything.’”
She said that the intruder approached her husband, who was sleeping in a chair and woke him.
She said her husband “sprang up” and began to struggle with the robber, who then shot him in the chest. The bandit then fled empty-handed.
Leaving the wounded miner in a chair, the two women ran outside and shouted for assistance, but no one responded.
Eventually, a woman who was driving assisted them in taking Chow to the GPHC. The wounded miner’s wife recalled her husband pleading with them to hurry, since he was having difficulty breathing.
The robber is still at large.
