The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Wednesday evening executed an emergency simulation, replicating an evening plane crash.
The simulated crash landing occurred at 18:44 hrs. Fifty-four persons were onboard and suffered various forms of injuries. There were two “casualties”, the airport disclosed.
The emergency protocol was activated to tend to the injured, which saw the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF), medical personnel from the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, and port health officials stationed at the airport springing into action.
For the first time, CJIA executed a river transport mechanism in collaboration with the maritime department of the GDF.
The simulation is necessary for CJIA to be certified, in order to fly to certain destinations. It is done every two years. This was the first night simulation.
